In Ohio, we call soda, pop.  I had the WORST Mountain Dew addiction.  I can remember drinking so many 12 oz. bottles a day.  If I didn’t have one or two by noon I had the migraine from Hell.   

Then one day I took a drink of Mountain Dew and my tongue curled.  Like I was gagging and about to throw up.  I knew then something had to change. 

Stopping wasn’t so easy.  I had to endure a week or so of feeling like complete crap and headaches galore.  Totally worth it though. 

We all know water is extremely boring, but it’s actually extremely important.  The body is almost 70% water and although it can go weeks without food, it can only go days without water.


If you don’t get enough water in your body throughout the day, you can dehydrate.  The early signs are so subtle you most likely don’t realize that’s whats happening.

  • headaches
  • mood swings
  • lethargy
  • confusion
  • dry lips
  • constipation

Most of these feelings are felt during a mid afternoon slump.  The worst is the chapped lips or cotton mouth.   My lips seem like they are always chapped if I don’t get enough water.  That’s not a sexy feeling when the man is trying to give me kisses.  

Another way water helps me lose weight, if I feel hungry but know I’m not supposed to eat, I drink a glass of water first.  I wait a few minutes and then usually never end up getting food.  If I do, only a bite or two will do.

Symptoms of late dehydration:

  • dark yellow urine
  • hallucinations
  • general achiness

Within a few hours you can stop producing urine altogether and then your kidneys can shut down!  At the point you NEED to get to the E.R.

Drinking tea, or pop throughout the day is soooo bad for us.  We don’t even realize we don’t feel good until we stop drinking the crap and start drinking water.  Then we realize how beneficial the water is to us for more than just losing weight.

Learn those first signs of dehydration and beat it at the start.



Such a good question, and one that is still up for debate in many health guru’s opinions. 

Here’s some of the responses I have been told when I ask……

Take your body weight and divide it in half.  That’s how much water in ounces you should drink at minimum!  So if you weight 200 lbs, drink 100 ounces of water a day, more if you drink alcohol, exercise or take a plane.

I try to drink a glass of water before every meal so I can feel fuller faster.

Listen to your body.  Drink water often throughout the day.

Again, coffee, tea and soda are full of caffeine which is a diuretic which make you pee.  Those counteract the positive affects of drinking water to replenish that water leaving your body.

I know drinking water is super boring.   So if you need to make water taste better than put in a slice of  fruit such as lemons, limes, oranges, or cucumbers.

To make sure the water your getting out of your facet is clean try a Pur water filter.  Don’t waste money on buying bulk water bottles that sit around your house half drank.  

We live in an area where fracking is going on all around us.  You hear reports of how dangerous that is for local water, I don’t know how true that is but I don’t like to take chances with my girls.
